I woke up this morning
And thought our dog was dead
She was on her "snoozy"
The kiwi name for "dog bed"
We could'nt see her breathing
She didn't wag her tail
She didn't dig up the garden
We didn't decide that she was for sale
I ain't got those dead dog blues.....
Well when I woke up this morning
I swore her life was through
No more walkies in the evening
And no more pickin up her poo
No more persian rug cleaning
After swimming in the pool
No more suprise "presents"
And no more shoes full of drool
I ain't got those, dead dog blues.....
I woke up this morning
And thought our dog was dead
No walking around barefoot
Concerned about where to tread
I woke up this morning
and realised this was the end
Was I heartbroken to be losing
A very special freind?
I ain't got those, dead dog blues.....
When I woke up this morning
I could have sworn our dog was dead
I knelt down and stroked her
Got a mound of hair that she had shed
As soon as I touched her
She farted and her head curled
At that moment I realised
That, she was still of this world
I got those, the bloody dog 'aint dead blues
I got those, have to put up with the smells and fur and the barking at nothing, blues
I got those, trips to the vet and the games of fetch, blues
I got those, being woken at night and scared of bugs that don't bite, blues
I got those, she’s the best in the world better than baby boys and girls, blues
I got those,
Thank god the dog ain't dead blues.......

Dude, didn't know you're a poet!! That was beautiful, I almost had to wipe a tear of my cheek (and I emphasise 'almost').
Good to have you in the Blog world. A bit too much biking for my tatse, but I will stay tuned.
Awww... g oooochhh.. ever so adorable.. Fungus, you came up with a melody for this piece yet? :)
Yup!, sung to the tune of "I woke up this morning"
Originaly recorded by Muddy Waters on Sun Records in the late 40's.
Muddy got it, I believe, from a tune sung by slaves working in the south.
The tune has been often copied, the Rolling Stones (also the title of a Muddy Waters song) did a version of Muddy's "I just wanna make love to you" (which is essentialy the same tune)
Muddy was born in 1915 and died in 1983, he was the first black muscisian to be accepted by a white mainstream audience and (in my humble opinion) is the both the grandfather of Rock n Roll and an early influencer of black American music.......even though my Wife thinks that RnB was invented by Chaka Khan.....
Firstly, Chaka Khan is not R'n'B. Secondly, she did not influence early African American music. Thirdly, for the record Fungus, 2Pac is NOT beer for poor people.
Dear me, someone needs to watch a little more MTV before he turns 40.........
Gucci - you are the cutest dog EVER.
Chaka!! Wasn't she in Mad Max - no wait, that's Tina Turner. I got nothin'.
